This antique French embroidered tapestry features imagery of the Madonna, in blue robes, standing on a snake and surrounded by clouds, gold thread accents and other decorative accents. The fabric is velvet that reads ecru or a light mushroom color which serves as the backdrop for extensive gold threaded accents of urns, flowers, scrollwork and other shapes. The bottom of the piece is fringed with gold thread. The tapestry is mounted on a newly-custom made iron rod hanger.
The tapestry alone measures 54" L x 28.75" W. The piece as shown measures 34" W x 54" L x 3" D. Tapestry does show some discoloration in areas along with some loss to the embroidery threading. See all images for details. This piece can be boxed for shipping, as the tapestry can be rolled safely. The hanger consists of an iron rod that is 34" L and two bracket hangers. The hanger has a charcoal finish. -
