This extraordinary Fallow Deer trophy is mounted on a hand carved Black Forest plaque. This trophy is attributed to the Grand Dukes of Baden of Germany, and originated from a collection of trophies that hung in Emperor Franz Josef's castle at Eckartsau. Baden bordered Austria, and the Grand Dukes frequently hunted with Emperor Franz Josef. This mount was part of the Habsburg Collection acquired from Eckartsau Castle, in the Southern Austrian Alps. Eckartsau was a favorite hunting Schloss of the Habsburg Family. The Baden wappen is attached to the carved, glazed and gilt back plaque. The mount is accompanied by a hunt horn engraved with "KuK" (Konig/King and Kaiser/Emperor) and "Eck" for Eckartsau, as well as the hunter's impressive hirschfänger with skinning knife and tassel.
Measures: H 44" x W 34" x D 21". Antlers are antique and all hardware is original. The piece is in good condition with patination on the hardware, horn and hunt sword.
