This is a small French cartoon that has been mounted in a floating glass frame with gilt detail. Small pieces like this work well in gallery walls or propped on a small easel for display on a table top. This illustration is by French artist Paul Gavarni and looks to have been taken from a book. Gavarni (1804-66) is well published and collected. Signed "Gavarni" in the lower right corner of the illustration.
The wording below the illustration reads: "Ah! que c'était une riche nature de femme! jolie... tout coeur! pleine d'esprit... et si bon garcon! Ca c'est crai; enfin! il y en a d'autres!" and translates to: "Ah! how rich a woman was! pretty ... wholeheartedly! witty ... and such a good boy! That’s it; finally! There are others!"
Measures 6.5"W x 8.5"H. Some light surface wear present and the cartoon paper has aged. Small metal loop on top edge of frame for hanging.
