This small burled wood keepsake box has an inscription of "Biquet" in hematite beading on the lid. "Biquet" roughly translates to "my love" or "my dear" or even "schnookums"-- a pet name of romantic origins. Inside the box is a very mysterious card game that is labeled with Exposition Universelle or World's Exposition of 1900 in Paris on the wrapping. There are also mother of pearl "chips" and wooden pieces that seem to coordinate with the cards. This must have been a very special gift.
