Sourced in the heart of the Champagne region of France near Reims, this enormous oak barrel originated from the famous house of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, and is stamped "VCP" on its outer side and features measurement marks on the interior to show the volume of the contents. This particular barrel was used to make Ratafia de Champagne, a mistelle (or fortified grape must) which is made from standard Champagne grapes, using must from later press runs once the juice for Champagne has been extracted. It is then fortified with a grape brandy distilled from the same type of juice.
We envision this piece as a fabulous bar-height table with a glass top to allow all the wonderful details of this piece to shine.
Measures: 46" D x 68" W x 35.5" H. See images for condition details, but this piece is sturdy and stable. The iron banding is patinated and the top edge has the most wear. The interior is also in very good condition given the age. Last image gives the best idea of the scale of this piece. Please contact us for a shipping quote by email to info@laurierblanc.com or by phone at (713) 485-0071.
